Hey, my name is Mark glad to have you here! Did you know that gymnastics were originally part of a harsh military training regimen in Ancient Greece and Rome? It’s true – bouncing and bounding around leads to increased flexibility, stronger joints and a more limber body overall, and these all happen to be good things when you’re trying to dodge incoming sword swings, or jockey for a superior position when fighting with another person. These days, gymnastics are a much more peaceful sport, but cool facts like these are what keep us Harlequin Hipsters interested in things like dancing, performing arts and of course, keeping physically fit.
We are a collaborative performance collective, made up of many different performers with many different skill sets and interests. We all have one thing in common though, which is an appreciation for the positive effects of dancing, regardless of whether we’re talking about swing, or acrobatics, or gymnastics, as has been mentioned a few times now. We don’t just perform for ourselves though! Hopefully, the shows we put on and the information about the topic which we are intimately familiar with will inspire others to get off their butts, hop onto their feet and start dancing.
Interpersonal connection and communication are also important to us, so there will be talking points, informative articles and other bits of prose here as well. We’ve got a little bit of everything here, which means there’s probably something for you too, if you’re willing to take the time to dig around and find it. We also welcome comments from our visitors, especially if you have something interesting to add to a conversation going on here. That doesn’t mean you need to be a professional performer to fit in though – just take it easy and you’ll be sure to find a niche for yourself here, sooner or later.
